Our Founder,
Yvette Chandler-Brock

In Loving Memory

Our founder, Yvette Brock, grew up in Inkster at a time when the city was thriving. Even still, she observed the impact of poverty and food insecurity firsthand.  Growing up in a large family with one income was tough. the family was glad to have a summer lunch program and they often benefited from food donations from local churches when money was tight.

Returning to the city after 15 years, our beloved founder noticed that many of those once flourishing neighborhoods were overrun with drugs, dealers, addicts, and gangs. There was a large and expanding homeless population, and many days she would see children wandering around looking for food.

One day, she overheard a child ask her mother, “Mommy does this mean we’re not going to eat again tonight?”

From that moment on, Yvette committed to do whatever she could to make sure that

every individual and family would never again go to bed hungry. That is when the idea of New Step CDC was born.
